Iconic Vulcan bomber set for Rhyl Airshow

An iconic British bomber aircraft will be taking to the skies above Denbighshire to make one of its last ever flights this Summer. It’s now been confirmed the Vulcan XH558 will be taking part in the Premier North Wales Air Show on Saturday 29th August. The aircraft which was operational from 1950s to 1985, played a vital role in the knife-edge tension of the Cold War. = Over 180,000 people are expected to watch the spectacular action unfold from the promenade over the course of the event weekend. Stephen Hughes, Interim Head of Communication, Marketing & Leisure for Denbighshire County Council said: “ The addition of the Vulcan XH558 to the Rhyl Air Show line-up is terrific news. The Vulcan is a huge favourite of aircraft enthusiasts across the UK, and makes a welcome return visit to the skies above Rhyl Seafront. The aircraft will also be retiring from public displays of this nature in September, so the people of Denbighshire and visitors to the area over the weekend of the event will be among the last to see this iconic bomber take to the skies. The combination of the Vulcan and all the other aircraft and ground based entertainment to have been confirmed will be a memorable highlight of our summer events programme. = Also confirmed for the event are the RAF Parachute Display Team The Falcons, Steve Carver’s aerobatic display, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight including a Spitfire, Hurricane and Dakota, the new RAF Hawk T2 Demo Role Duo and the world famous Red Arrows Aerobatic Display Team, with further displays to be announced. This premier air show is an event that puts Rhyl on the map, thrills hundreds of thousands of people and greatly benefits local businesses.”
